The search is on for a suspect after a shooting incident in Detroit's popular Greektown district has left a man injured. Detroit Police are actively investigating the shooting that occurred outside the Greektown Casino, with authorities having responded to the scene around 2:20 a.m. on Friday. According to WWJ Newsradio, the incident was the result of an argument that turned violent and the suspect discharged a firearm, striking a 40-year-old man.
As reported by ClickOnDetroit, the area was quickly cordoned off following the incident that took place at the intersection of St. Antoine and Monroe Street. Despite the presence of law enforcement, there was initially no word on any suspects, suggesting an elusive trail in the moments that followed the altercation.
Investigators have provided a description of the alleged shooter, last seen wearing a distinct black, white, and green varsity jacket, coupled with a white t-shirt, black pants, and black and white gym shoes. The victim, while having sustained injuries, was treated at a hospital and released. The police, in an effort to apprehend the suspect, are asking for the public's assistance. Those with any information about the crime or the suspect's whereabouts are encouraged to contact the Detroit Police Department’s 3rd Precinct or Crime Stoppers.
Reassuringly, FOX 2 Detroit clarifies that the shooting did not take place inside Hollywood Casino at Greektown, but rather in its vicinity, a fact that might mitigate concerns for those frequenting the establishment. Nevertheless, details concerning what exactly preceded the gunfire are still under wraps, and the police have yet to isolate a motive or a clear narrative behind the night's events.
