A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision near Silver Lake. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday when a 50-year-old Manistee man on a motorcycle attempted to overtaken a vehicle in a no-passing zone on S. 18th Avenue, south of Warren Road in Benona Township. According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the man on the motorcycle was swiftly taken to the hospital with serious injuries following the crash. Authorities have since confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, a 59-year-old Mears woman, did not sustain any injuries in the incident. Drug and alcohol use are not currently suspected to have played a role in the crash, the sheriff's office indicated. Local news outlet UpNorthLive further detailed that the injured motorcyclist was airlifted to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment.

As reported by 9&10 News, the motorcyclist was riding a 1999 Harley Davidson and struck the car while trying to pass it. The accident resulted in significant injuries for the motorcyclist, prompting emergency medical services from Life EMS to facilitate transportation to Trinity Health-Shelby Campus, where he was subsequently transferred to AeroMed.

Mason-Oceana 911, Shelby-Benona Fire Department, and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office aided at the scene, ensuring a swift response to the emergency. The authorities’ investigation into the crash continues. Despite the severity of the crash, no further injuries were reported, and the driver of the car was able to emerge unscathed.
