The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Baltimore County Health Department, is rolling up its sleeves for an impromptu mosquito control effort, following concerns over mosquito-borne illnesses. Residents can expect ultra-low volume (ULV) truck-based spraying on the evening of September 4, targeting adult mosquitoes in Parkville, precisely around Harford Road and Edgewood Avenue, as announced by the State of Maryland press release.

Due to concerns about mosquito-borne diseases, an unscheduled spraying will begin after 7:30 p.m. and if the weather doesn’t cooperate, it will be rescheduled to the next clear evening. During the spraying, locals are advised to avoid outdoor activities. The spraying will use a permethrin-based solution approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. To be cautious, it's best to stay indoors while the trucks are active.

Not all mosquitoes carry disease, but the MDA advises playing it safe. They recommend wearing long, loose, light-colored clothing, using repellents as directed, and avoiding mosquito-prone areas after dark. For home maintenance, fix window and door screens, keep bird baths clean, and get rid of any standing water around your home.

Marylanders should follow MDA’s Facebook page @MdAgDept for updates on unscheduled mosquito spray events and other information. For more details, call MDA’s Mosquito Control Program at 410-841-5870.
