The National Weather Service in Milwaukee has extended the Beach Hazards Statement for Milwaukee County, now in effect late tonight, cautioning about life-threatening waves and dangerous currents along the lakeshore. According to the National Weather Service Hazards Statement for Milwaukee County detailed earlier today, "Life threatening waves of 3 to 5 feet and dangerous currents are expected."
With sunny skies and temperatures expected to reach 74 degrees, beachgoers should stay alert, as these appealing conditions can be misleading. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid the water and keep a safe distance from dangerous areas like piers and breakwalls, as rip currents may also pose a risk.
As Milwaukeeans embrace a mostly clear night with the temperature dipping to around 60 degrees, and a sunny Monday forecast ahead with a high near 75, recreational activities on land are the safe bet. The contrast between the benign weather on land and the treacherous lake conditions is stark in an area renowned for its proximity to Lake Michigan.
The National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Outlook reports a High Swim Risk at all Lake Michigan beaches today and tonight. No hazardous weather is expected from Monday through Saturday.
