The National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan has issued a Beach Hazards Statement, warning of life-threatening waves and currents along the shores of Sheboygan, Ozaukee, and Milwaukee counties. The statement by the NWS, effective until 1 p.m. CDT this afternoon, advises the public to stay clear of the water due to "dangerous swimming conditions" caused by "high waves and onshore winds." Waves are expected to reach heights of 3 to 5 feet.
As per the outlook, swimmers are cautioned to remain vigilant of the hazardous conditions which include "strong structural and longshore currents" and the potential for rip currents. Individuals are strongly recommended to not only avoid entering the water but also to stay away from treacherous areas like piers and breakwalls, as the risks are significantly elevated under these conditions.
The hazardous weather outlook extends for all southern Wisconsin beaches, where the public should heed warnings and exercise extreme caution through this afternoon. In addition to the beach hazards, areas of fog with limited visibility are expected in the northwestern counties during predawn hours. These conditions pose a risk for travelers and could affect morning commutes.
The outlook for the rest of the week appears free from significant danger, with no severe weather is anticipated. from Tuesday through Sunday. Despite the respite, residents and visitors should continue to stay informed and prepared as weather patterns are subject to change. Spotter activation has not been deemed necessary at this time, suggesting that while the current dangers are localized to the beaches, they are significant enough to warrant public dissemination and caution.
