Following a disturbance call on September 22, New Braunfels Police Department officers encountered a tense standoff that led to an officer involved shooting. According to an official press release by the City of New Braunfels, the incident took place near the 1200 block of Roaring Falls at around 8 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers met with resistance as a 63-year-old male suspect refused, initially, to come out of the residence. What the officers were to quickly discern was a threat to their safety when they spotted the suspect aiming a shotgun at them through a window. This prompted a Patrol Sergeant with 17 years of service to discharge his weapon in what seemed an attempt to neutralize the perceived danger.

Shortly after the gunfire, the suspect emerged from the front door brandishing a knife but was swiftly subdued and taken into custody by the police. Injured in the encounter, he was transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital – New Braunfels. Although he sustained superficial wounds, it remains unclear whether these injuries were consequent to the officer's gunfire or self-inflicted.

The man, whose name has not been released, remains hospitalized and is reported to be stable. Awaiting his discharge, formal charges are pending. In the interim, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave, which follows the protocol typically observed in the aftermath of any officer involved shootings. The Texas Rangers have since taken up the case to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident's particulars.
