An Oakland County man, Timothy Allen Daugherty, 61, has been charged with six counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct about allegations involving minor students. The charges were detailed in reports by CBS News Detroit. Daugherty, a resident of White Lake, was a contracted substitute teacher in Highland Township at the time of the incidents and is now facing severe penalties, including up to 15 years in prison.
During his arraignment yesterday, the court issued a $75,000 bond and mandated that Daugherty wear a GPS tether upon any potential release. The initial allegations surfaced in April 2024, and Daugherty was subsequently suspended from work, as per court documents. "This was a trusted individual in a school that preyed upon kids," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said, as per FOX 2 Detroit. She went on to praise "the bravery of the young victims who came forward."
The gravity of the charges stems from allegations of inappropriate sexual contact with minor students. These acts have profoundly affected not just the victims but also the trust within the community. If convicted, Daugherty, along with prison time, faces a lifetime of electronic monitoring and mandatory AIDS/STD testing, according to CBS News Detroit. The Special Victims Unit of the prosecutor's office is set to handle the case.
A probable cause conference is scheduled to quickly follow on September 18, with a preliminary examination planned for September 25. As this case continues to unfold, the prosecutor's office urges victims or those with information to reach out to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Highland Township Substation, as disclosed in the ClickOnDetroit article.
