According to Yost, the surge in migrant populations has led to a host of problems for local cities, specifically citing Springfield in Clark County as a community that has been particularly affected. Data from the Ohio Attorney General's Office indicates that the city's population has expanded by more than a third because of this issue.
Yost is openly questioning the limitations on federal authority, stating, "Could the federal government simply funnel into Ohio all the millions of migrants flooding in under the current administration’s watch? There’s got to be a limiting principle. We’re going to find a way to get this disaster in front of a federal judge." As the Ohio Attorney General's Office reported, Yost is committed to fully exploring every means to contend with the escalating situation, which has put local economies, healthcare systems, and schools under pressure.
There have been numerous complaints from Ohioans in the affected areas regarding the negative impacts caused by the surge. Issues have ranged from car accidents to theft, including the disturbing theft of livestock, squatting in properties, and the hunting and killing of wildlife for sustenance. Yost highlighted that "The problem is not migrants.
