Good news for folks on the move in Orange County, especially if you rely on the bus to get you from point A to point B. According to the Orange County Government, LYNX is stepping up with more frequent buses and new routes, all part of a massive $100 million Accelerated Transportation Safety Program (ATSP) initiative.
The new LYNX changes include a promise of buses coming by more often and better weekend service. This should make life a little easier for the community, especially for the 50 percent of LYNX riders who clock in for the service industry. James Boyle, Interim Chief Planning and Development Officer for LYNX, noted that they made adjustments based on ridership statistics and user feedback, aiming to impact those going to work, doctor appointments, or shopping.
There have been some pretty significant shake-ups in the LYNX lineup. Take, for instance, the new 311 express route that now connects Orlando International Airport to the magical realms of Disney Springs, firing up every half hour from early morning to late evening. It will make a difference, particularly for those navigating the well-trodden path between the airport and the beloved resort.
And it seems like the changes have already started winning hearts. Cathy Martino, An everyday passenger, gushed to the Orange County newsroom about her commute being slashed in half. That's not small when you think about the extra minutes people now have in their pockets for life outside the rhythm of transit schedules.
LYNX isn't just stopping at route enhancements, either. They've got plans in the pipeline for station upgrades, a slew of new bus shelters, and other service boosters, all of which are part of the ATSP's grand design, which extends beyond just buses to include better lighting, sidewalks, and more safety measures for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.
Fares start at a manageable $2 for a single ride, or if you're going all out, $4.50 gets you an all-day pass. Those interested can fish out more specifics at the LYNX website or verify the dope on the ATSP on Orange County's portal.
