This morning, an evacuation unfolded at Fire Station 50 in Orlando’s Holden Heights neighborhood when a woman carried a suspected live grenade into the premises. According to WFTV, Orange County Fire Rescue responded at around 6 a.m. when the unidentified woman arrived with the hazardous item.
The station personnel immediately directed the woman to leave the object outdoors and distance herself from it. Following their protocol, firefighters sequestered within the station, vacating the main building and assembling in a courtyard area. The prompt response also led to nearby roads being cordoned off by deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Office while the unfolding situation was assessed.
A specialized bomb squad was promptly summoned to the scene, and after a careful examination, they ascertained that the grenade was, in fact, nonfunctional. WESH reported that following the bomb squad's evaluation, the all-clear was given, signaling no immediate danger to the responders or the public.
The motives behind the woman's decision to bring the fake grenade to the fire station remain unknown. As of this report, no injuries have been reported due to the incident. The identity of the woman involved has not been released, and details on why she possessed the faux explosive are still to be uncovered.
