Orlando residents may want to pack their umbrellas and prepare for potential flooding, as the forecast above-normal rain chances and heavy rainfall throughout the week. According to the National Weather Service's latest discussion early this morning, the presence of deep tropical moisture, particularly high near the Treasure Coast, raises concerns for local flooding, particularly in areas that have seen recent heavy rains.
With temperatures expected to soar into the upper 80s and lower 90s and heat index values peaking between 100-105 degrees, the oppressive humidity isn't taking a break, either. The National Weather Service Melbourne warns, "Cell motion will be generally from south to north but will become slow and erratic along outflow and sea/lake breeze boundary collisions which will present the best opportunity for excessive rainfall, locally up to 4 inches."
For the mariners, the Atlantic ridge axis north of the local waters is ushering in a south-to-southeast flow, stipulating scattered numerous showers and storms. "Winds S to SE 10-15 kts today becoming SE to E Tue-Thu then veering south Friday as a weak boundary settles into north Florida," the local National Weather Service bureau anticipates. Sea conditions will also see some action with a forecast of increasing swell, potentially reaching 4-5 ft offshore by mid-week.
