A tragic incident rocked the intersection of West 23rd Street and Santa Fe Avenue when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle earlier this month. According to the Long Beach Police Department's statement, the collision happened on the morning of September 4, 2024 and resulted in the death of the pedestrian several days later.
At around 7:00 a.m. on the day of the accident, officers responded to the scene after reports of an injury traffic collision. A woman, whose identity hasn't been released as next of kin are yet to be notified, was found injured in the roadway after being hit by a vehicle. Despite the efforts of first responders and subsequent medical treatment, she succumbed to her injuries on September 7 at a local hospital.
The female pedestrian was reportedly walking westbound in a marked crosswalk at the time she was struck. The driver of the car involved in the fatal accident was making a left turn from West 23rd onto Santa Fe Avenue, colliding with her. The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with officers according to the official press release.
