
Violence erupted on a Petaluma street on Monday night when a man was reportedly stabbed during a scuffle. Petaluma Police responded to a call at about 9:53 pm on Hopper St., where they found two men involved in a physical altercation, according to the Petaluma Police Department. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Javier Ortega of Petaluma, had allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before the officers' arrival.
Witnesses at the scene stated that they saw Ortega swiftly attempt to hide the knife, which police later recovered in front of the Mary Issak Center. The victim, suffering severe injuries, had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. His condition has been stable since 6:50 am yesterday.
Ortega was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and for outstanding warrants. Details of the warrants were not disclosed at the time.
