A bar employee in Philadelphia's East Germantown was the victim of a drive-by shooting while performing a closing task late Sunday night. The 53-year-old was shot twice in the back as he was taking out the trash outside of Charlie B's Bar, on the 100 block of East Chelten Avenue, according to Fox29. The gunman reportedly carried out the attack from a Dodge Ram pickup truck around midnight and fled the scene immediately after.
As told by the Philadelphia Police, the suspected vehicle was described as a dark-colored, early 2000's model Dodge Ram, seen shooting from across the street, as per the information obtained by 6abc. While details on the motive are still unclear and no arrests have been made, the wounded employee is now in stable condition.
It seems the incident was not a random occurrence, as authorities currently speculate that the assailant may have been "lying in wait" before the shooting. "Given the fact that there was basically one individual coming out at this time, and based on the preliminary information that we have at least, the vehicle may have been there for some time," said Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace, suggesting a targeted attack. This statement came from NBC Philadelphia.
The shooting took place right outside the front door of the establishment and the responding officers were quick to reach the 53-year-old man, who was reportedly suffering from two gunshot wounds, one to his chest and once to his back, NBC Philadelphia reported. Initial investigations also show that the gunfire came from a vehicle that was parked on the opposite side of the street in front of the bar.
