The City of Steel has taken home a new accolade that will polish its industrial image into a cultural glow. Pittsburgh has been officially recognized by the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) as a World Festival & Event City, highlighting its stature as a leading destination for entertainment and communal gatherings. Yes, you heard that right—the Steelers' stomping grounds are now also champs in the global festival arena.
This isn't just a pat on the back for Pittsburgh's lively streets. It signals the city’s ability to organize meticulously and host events that draw visitors from across the globe—something not to be taken lightly in today’s event-driven world. As reported by the City of Pittsburgh, the IFEA President, Steven Wood Schmader, praised the city's efforts, saying, “The quality of all the entries paints a bright picture for our industry and those cities recognized with this award are helping to build a strong foundation and example that we hope all cities, globally, will work to emulate."
Jerad Bachar, the President & CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH, rightly pointed out how much of this win is thanks to the collaboration and community effort pulsing through the city’s veins. Regarding the long game, VisitPITTSBURGH unveiled a 10-Year Tourism Development Plan last November, aiming to seriously ramp up the city's event game over the next decade. Echoing Bachar’s statements, Mayor Gainey highlighted the city’s strategic efforts to boost tourism and cultural engagement, demonstrating that you can count on Pittsburgh to bring the party.
Pittsburgh has joined cities like Phuket and Milwaukee as a top festival-friendly city, according to VisitPITTSBURGH. Check out their winning video on VisitPITTSBURGH’s website to see why the ‘Burgh earned this recognition and plan your next festival visit.
