Pittsburgh's soccer scene is buzzing with the introduction of a new team, the Pittsburgh Riveters, set to compete in the USL W League. The name "Riveters" was chosen by 53% of voters in a poll that attracted nearly 10,000 fans. It reflects Pittsburgh's industrial past and the empowering image of Rosie the Riveter. The team’s colors, black and yellow, pay tribute to the city’s sports heritage, as reported by WTAE.
The Rosie the Riveter emblem, replete with the city's black and yellow palette, centers the team's identity visually and conceptually. This link to regional history, as well as the values Rosie represents, is something the team's leadership is keen to emphasize. "The resilience, unity, and courage she represents are the same traits we want our players and fans to embrace as we embark on this new chapter for Pittsburgh sports," Jeff Garner, President of both the Pittsburgh Riveters and Riverhounds SC, stated, as per WPXI.
The Riveters hope to bolster the city's sports legacy while paving an inspiring path forward. Garner's vision involves honoring the past while innovating for the future. He mentions, "This team is not only honoring history but also creating its own path for future generations." According to details gathered by WPXI, the Riveters are set to play at Highmark Stadium starting May 2025, and fans are awaiting the release of their official schedule in the coming months.
