A family of four in Raleigh has been displaced after a significant house fire on Sunday afternoon, according to the Raleigh Fire Department. The blaze, reported at 5:15 PM at 420 Dickens Drive, had heavy flames when firefighters arrived. Video captured intense flames and smoke rising into the sky. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to control the fire, and fortunately, there were no injuries. Around 35 firefighters responded to the emergency. CBS 17 reported that the family did not need assistance from the Red Cross for housing.
In a separate incident early the same day, two children were injured in an apartment fire in Raleigh. Sources indicate that the Raleigh Fire Department responded to what was initially a cardiac arrest call on the 1800 block of Cantwell Court around 6 a.m. Upon arrival, the call was escalated to a fire after a kitchen blaze was discovered. A 1-year-old and a 4-year-old were found to have suffered from smoke inhalation and were transported to the hospital, as detailed in an article from ABC11.
The Raleigh Fire Department upgraded the apartment fire to a code blue, emphasizing the urgency and seriousness of the event. As reported by WRAL news, emergency medical services were called in to transport two children, aged 1 and 4, to the hospital after extinguishing the small kitchen fire. At the time of reporting, the condition of the children was still being assessed, along with the causes of both fires.
While the family on Dickens Drive seems to have avoided immediate tragedy, the incident on Cantwell Court leaves the community anxiously awaiting updates on the health of two young children. The cause of the fire at the Dickens Drive residence is under investigation as officials work to understand the origins of these two destructive events in a city facing unexpected challenges.
