Philadelphia police are piecing together the details of a road rage incident that escalated into gunfire on I-95 before culminating in a multi-vehicle crash yesterday. The confrontation between the drivers of a gold Oldsmobile sedan and a black pick-up truck began near mile marker 15.3 and ended up blocking the northbound lanes between the Philadelphia International Airport, and South Philadelphia Sports Complex, as reported by CBS News Philadelphia.

According to FOX 29, the escalated quarrel occurred around 10 a.m., wherein, the Oldsmobile's driver reportedly discharged a semi-automatic pistol multiple rounds at the pick-up. The altercation continued as both vehicles proceeded north, until a collision took place causing the Oldsmobile to also strike an uninvolved Ford Escape.

While the Oldsmobile was reported to have sustained "disabling damage" from the crash, the pick-up truck, said to be towing a trailer, fled the scene and is currently being sought by authorities. As of now, no injuries have been reported from the clash, and no charges have been filed. Yet the search for the black pick-up continues, with the Pennsylvania State Police encouraging witnesses to come forward with any helpful information, as communicated by NBC Philadelphia.

The incident forced a significant traffic disruption, with the highway shut down for approximately two hours while an investigation ensued, as CBS News Philadelphia noted. Meanwhile, drivers were backed up for miles and authorities worked diligently to reverse some of the cars to alleviate the congestion. The lanes were reopened after 12:30 p.m., easing the earlier traffic snarl.
