Rocky Mount, N.C. — A confrontation that escalated into gunfire left one man dead at Hal Orr's Inn on Sunday, and while two suspects are under custody, authorities are actively searching for the alleged shooter. According to information from CBS17, the Rocky Mount Police Department was called to the scene on the 2400 block of North Wesleyan Boulevard just after 1 a.m. following reports of shots fired. The investigation found that an altercation at the motel had led to 39-year-old Mack Jenkins being shot. Despite attempts at life-saving interventions, Jenkins was transported to a location on the 400 block of Saint Paul Street, where he was pronounced dead.
The aftermath has seen Harold Phillips and Alicia Pettaway arrested and charged. As reported by ABC11, each face felony accessory after the fact in the incident. Phillips's bond has been set at $25,000, and Pettaway's at $10,000; both are currently being held at the Nash County Jail. However, Jessie Earl Johnson Jr., who police have charged with first-degree murder, remains at large. Rocky Mount authorities are urging anyone with knowledge about Johnson's whereabouts to come forward and provide information to aid in his capture.
