Law enforcement responded to a troubling call on September 3, after school staff flagged a possible case of abuse involving a young student exhibiting a burn mark on his neck and a contusion on his forehead.
As per the details made public by the KTLA, the suspect in question, Kristen "Kris" Michaels, is accused of causing the injuries by kicking the child in the head. Michaels, who remains at large, is further described by authorities as a tall, Black man with distinguishing features such as long black hair, tattoos on his face, and a facial piercing below his eye. However, as of yet, no photo of Michaels has been released to aid the public in his identification.
In a related development, Nixle reports that the child's guardian, 36-year-old April Brooks, was arrested on charges of child endangerment. Brooks, who was purportedly aware of the abuse, allowed Michaels to continue residing at the home with the child, despite the evident danger. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department indicated Brooks was uncooperative with investigators, refusing to supply any information that might aid in Michaels' capture, stating, "Brooks was uncooperative in identifying Michaels and refused to provide information that would assist deputies in contacting him."
