Last night, Santa Rosa's Special Enforcement Team officers had a run-in with individuals known to be probationers and gang participants, resulting in one adult and several juveniles being detained after a loaded firearm was discarded during their attempt to flee. The event occurred around 9:49 pm near Sunset Avenue and McMinn Avenue, as reported by the Santa Rosa Police Department. The quick action of the officers led to the recovery of a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun, which initially had been concealed in an individual's waistband.
During the pursuit, SET Officers witnessed one of the subjects discarding the concealed firearm, which prompted the immediate detention of two subjects and a third after a brief chase. The officers were patrolling an area known for gang activity when they recognized several of the individuals. According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, the offender who had been carrying the firearm was identified as 18-year-old Santa Rosa resident Esteban Chavez-Gonzalez.
