Los Angeles authorities are on the hunt for a driver who left the scene after severely injuring a 63-year-old bicyclist in Baldwin Hills earlier this month. KTLA reported that the hit-and-run occurred on the evening of Sept. 2, where the unidentified male victim was struck while trying to rise after falling off his bike at the intersection of Hoover and 79th streets.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department's press release, the incident took place at approximately 10:27 p.m., and the sedan involved was seen continuing northbound on Hoover Street after the collision the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene transporting the man, who sustained life-threatening injuries, to a local hospital, where he remains under medical care. His family has extended a public appeal for any witnesses to step forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
The LAPD has yet to provide a detailed description of the vehicle in question. In a statement, the department emphasized the legal obligation of the driver to stop, render aid, and remain at the scene of the accident—a requirement that was not met in this case.
The department recently convened a press conference headlined by Detective III Ryan Moreno and Detective Karla Carrillo of the South Traffic Division to discuss the severity of the incident. Additionally, those with information concerning the vehicular assault can reach investigators through multiple channels, including Detective Carrillo directly at the South Traffic Division, after hours to the South Traffic Watch Commander, or the LAPD's anonymous tip line at 877-527-3247.
