Authorities in Jacksonville Beach have been on an intense search for a 15-year-old boy last observed in the waters yesterday. The multi-agency response included Jacksonville Beach Ocean Rescue, Jacksonville Beach Police Department, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Air and Marine Units, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, and the U.S. Coast Guard, as reported by First Coast News. The teen, described as a black male standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 120 pounds, was last seen wearing black and red swim trunks.

According to the News4Jax coverage, the search was suspended yesterday night without any success. Beachgoers were initially unaware of the incident until the increased presence of law enforcement searching for the young swimmer. The search included various measures, such as an ATV patrolling the shore and a helicopter from the Coast Guard scanning the coastline.

Witnesses recounted the urgency of the situation as it unfolded. "I saw the boy's sibling go over to a lifeguard and point at the water. The lifeguard immediately went into the water," Daniel Chaves recounted in an interview with Action News Jax. Reports from public safety officials indicated that the family did everything right — maintaining proximity to a lifeguard station and alerting a lifeguard as soon as they lost sight of the swimmer.

Although exhaustive efforts were made, Jacksonville Beach police released a statement indicating the official search was called off. Jax Beach Ocean Rescue has now taken over the responsibility of the search. The First Alert Weather Team had forecasted high rip current risks and red flag warnings on the day of the disappearance, contributing to the treacherous swimming conditions, as noted by First Coast News. Ocean Rescue Captain Rob Emahiser emphasized the importance of swimming near a lifeguard, especially during rough sea conditions.
