A violent incident unfolded at a Montgomery County laundromat early Wednesday morning when a woman was subjected to a brutal assault while engaged in the mundane task of folding clothes. The attack took place at approximately 7 a.m. in the Roslyn section of Abington Township, a neighborhood now on edge after the suspect, believed to be homeless, fled the scene eastbound on Woodland Road, carrying a blue shopping bag.
Abington Police have detailed that the suspect, whose image has been captured on surveillance footage, delivered several punches to the woman's face, resulting in "lacerations, swelling and fractured bones." The victim's injuries were of such severity that she required hospital transportation by ambulance, FOX 29 reported. Unfamiliar with her assailant, the victim was an unsuspecting target, carrying out an everyday chore before violence shattered the early morning calm.
The authorities have released the surveillance photo of the man responsible, who was seen wearing a mask, a brown zip-up hoodie, and dark pants before the attack. Officers are maintaining a high state of vigilance as they seek assistance from the local community to identify the suspect. "Officers are on high alert, but the Abington Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying or locating this suspect," police were quoted as saying by FOX 29.
Any individuals with knowledge concerning the suspect's whereabouts, or who may recognize him from the provided image, are implored to contact Detective Cynthia Pettinato directly at (267) 536-1098. In a statement given to NBC Philadelphia, the police further urged anyone encountering the man to avoid engagement and instead, “call 911 ASAP.”
