The city announces a widespread closure of its facilities on September 26. This temporary shutdown is not due to any emergency but for a planned staff training day across the Recreation Division, as reported by Parkways Seattle.
On that Thursday, a significant number of programs and locations will be off the grid. Parks and Recreation Department will be talking about all recreation programs, community centers, teen life centers, and indoor swimming pools, along with specialty locations such as the Green Lake Small Craft Center, and the Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center. The Amy Yee Tennis Center joins the list too.
But not everything is closed – some of the city's recreation spots are still open. While staff are getting their learn on, parks themselves will be accessible for green space needs. The Volunteer Park Conservatory, Japanese Garden, and all boat ramps will be operating as usual. And for golf aficionados, golf courses, and driving ranges aren't pausing for training, according to Parkways Seattle.
The city’s decision to close these public spaces for a day has a clear goal: to ensure the Recreation Division's staff are up-to-speed with the latest practices and can continue to deliver top-notch services.
