A security guard was stabbed on a Metrolink train near Acton on Sunday evening, authorities confirm. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. just before the train arrived at the Vincent Grade station in Acton. NBC Los Angeles reports that the guard was able to detain the assailant with the aid of pepper spray and the help of a doctor present on the train.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies quickly apprehended the suspect following the altercation. While the guards did not sustain serious injuries, they were treated for wounds deemed non-life-threatening. The disturbance caused a temporary inconvenience to travelers as the Antelope Valley Line 285 train to Lancaster was placed on hold during the police activity. ABC7 reported that Metrolink provided affected riders with a $50 compensation for alternative transportation.

Operations resumed later that evening, with Metrolink updating passengers via social media that the train was again moving as of 10:57 p.m. There have been no additional reports of injuries from the incident. This stabbing comes on the heels of another violent episode involving public transportation in Los Angeles where a Metro bus was hijacked and a passenger fatally shot less than a week prior.

Transit authorities have not yet provided details on any additional security measures that will be put in place in response to these events.
