The city of Philadelphia witnessed a series of violent outbursts on Sunday with three separate stabbings incidents that occurred within 24 hours, leaving four people injured. The Philadelphia Police are currently investigating the series of events that have raised concerns about public safety in the city.
The first incident, as reported by FOX29, took place early in the morning around 4:47 a.m. on the unit block of South Dewey Street. A 41-year-old woman walked into Temple Hospital with two stab wounds in her right upper back. No scene was immediately established, no weapons were recovered, and no arrests have been made in what seems a jarring start to a day.
A second attack occurred approximately 12 hours later on the 2700 block of Kensington Avenue, according to NBC Philadelphia. Inside a deli, a 27-year-old man sustained a stabbing injury to his right forearm, and another victim, a 63-year-old man, was cut on the head. The police responded, transferring both men to Temple Hospital where they were listed in stable condition. As with the first incident, no arrests were made nor were weapons found at the scene.
The third and final reported attack caused injury to a City Park Ranger who was stabbed in the head near the right eye during a confrontation in Rittenhouse Square. As per CBS News Philadelphia, this incident happened just after 4:15 p.m. and the ranger was taken to Jefferson Hospital, where he was placed in stable condition. An arrest has been made in this case and a weapon was recovered. Witnesses who were present in Rittenhouse Square when the incident occurred reported to NBC Philadelphia that the ranger had asked the suspect to leave because he was being belligerent before the suspect returned and the altercation ensued.
Tom McGrath, a local walking his dog, witnessed the aftermath and described seeing the injured ranger with "his head was in the pavilion, but his body was out and there was somebody who I believe was a nurse who was compressing a part of his eye, his right eye." The community knows the ranger, a man from Puerto Rico who began his job at the start of the summer, and recognizes him for his dedication to maintaining the park's safety. According to a friend of the ranger, the suspect was restrained by witnesses until the police arrived, with a statement by the police confirming that a weapon was recovered at the scene, as reported by NBC Philadelphia.
