Authorities in Missouri City have stumbled upon skeletal remains while searching for Karen Miles, a mother who went missing last month. Miles was last seen on August 21, and her family, who hadn't heard from her since August 22, reported her missing a week later, on August 29. In a twist of events, police discovered her car being driven by a man with stolen license plates on the vehicle, which the Missouri City police believe to potentially indicate foul play, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
The search conducted yesterday was based on a tip that led investigators to a deeply wooded area in the 16000 block of Blue Ridge Road, where they were to tragically find the remains. This development came after earlier events when Pearland police encountered Miles's vehicle on August 25. After tracing stolen Arkansas plates via flock cameras, police apprehended Davante Clark, who was found behind the wheel in a grocery store parking lot. The children of Miles, residing out of state, reported her missing three days later, unable to reach their mother.
Clark, who was arrested on charges not related to Miles’s disappearance, had a weapon with him at the time of his arrest, though authorities have not linked him to the case of the missing woman. According to an interview with detectives cited by Click2Houston, there appears to be no prior connection between Clark and Miles, and it remains a mystery as to how he had come to possess her vehicle. Clark is currently regarded as a person of interest.
The Fort Bend County Medical Examiner's Office is set to conduct an autopsy in order to positively identify the skeletal remains. "The Missouri City Police Department wants to assure family, friends and all those who know Karen, we are conducting a fair and thorough investigation," read a statement from the department, as noted by Click2Houston.
