A small single-engine aircraft crashed yesterday at the BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. According to WMAR-2 News, the incident took place off the end of the general aviation runway, and three individuals aboard the plane sustained injuries described as minor.
As CBS News reported, the crash has not affected the airport's regular operations. Jonathan Dean, BWI's Director of Communications, stated that the BWI Marshall Airport Fire and Rescue Department responded to the small aircraft incident, in addition to Airport Operations and mutual aid support. Not long after landing off the end of the runway, the FAA was notified of the crash.
Details concerning the cause of the accident have not yet been disclosed. The Federal Aviation Administration has started an investigation to determine what led to the small plane veering off course. Meanwhile, studies show that general aviation accidents are less frequent compared to commercial air travel, but scrutiny remains over small aircraft safety.
As the FAA's inquiry progresses, further updates on the crash are anticipated. The individuals injured were the only occupants of the plane, and major injuries have been reportedly avoided.
