Comedy and politics are fast friends, and "Saturday Night Live" opened its landmark 50th season intertwining the two with its signature sketch comedy flair. Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a fresh favorite on the viral scene, was the latest to get the SNL treatment with her portrayal on the show this past weekend, receiving some laughs at her own expense.
According to My San Antonio, “bad girl of C-SPAN,” as she was dubbed, was brought to life by SNL cast member Ego Nwodim. The sketch depicted Crockett on a political talk show, with Nwodim delivering a spot-on iteration of the representative's infamous "bleach-blonde bad built butch body" remark, originally aimed at Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. The segment also saw Crockett's character taking jabs at other political figures before wrapped up with a courteous "thank you," ending the bit.
Crockett herself took the parody in stride, making light of the comedic portrayal in her appearance on MSNBC. In the interview with Alex Witt, Crockett admitted it was "really funny" to see herself caricatured on the legendary comedy show. She went on to discuss weightier matters, such as Kamala Harris's border visit and her part in the 'Fighting for Reproductive Freedom' bus tour, according to Yahoo News.
SNL's choice to feature Crockett is reflective of an year that's seen her viral moments crisscrossing internet like wildfire. From her sharp clapbacks to her outspoken stance on the conservative Project 2025, her digital footprint has been undeniably influential. And as SNL heads into its 50th cycle, it seems clear that politicos with a strong online presence like Rep. Crockett will continue to be a goldmine for the show’s writers and cast.
