The Austin Police Department is delving into the details of a homicide that struck the southeast area of the city on Sunday evening. According to KXAN, two 911 calls drew authorities to a residence on the 2500 block of Teri Road, an area intersected by Pleasant Valley Road and just north of Stassney Lane.
Upon their arrival at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers discovered a Hispanic male victim who exhibited "obvious signs of trauma," reported APD Officer Leah Ratliff in a statement. Efforts were made by the Austin-Travis County EMS and APD officials to try to resuscitate the man, however, he was declared deceased by 6:34 p.m., as confirmed by Ratliff. The crime scene was active with homicide detectives, who pressed on into the night seeking answers.
A separate report by KVUE added that while a person of interest is currently being questioned about the case, authorities maintain that the distressing event appears to be an isolated incident. With this assertion, the APD has aimed to quell public fear by stating that there is no known threat looming over the community.
This incident has been marked as Austin's 43rd homicide in the year 2024. Detectives are seemingly working with fierce diligence, having acknowledged the possibility of more than one scene linked to the investigation. Anyone holding information pertinent to the case is being encouraged by the police to contact the APD homicide tip line at 512-974-8477. The exact details of the victim have not been disclosed, nor the nature of the inquiries directed towards the person of interest at this juncture.
