A Springfield Township man, convicted of sexually assaulting multiple minors, has been sentenced to serve a significant term behind bars. Steven Craig Gorman, 57, will face 11 ½ to 23 years in a state correctional institution following his guilty plea to numerous charges, which include the sexual assaults of three children.
Gorman's sentence, handed down yesterday, was announced in a report from the official Bucks County government website. Having pleaded guilty in June, Gorman was convicted on multiple counts: two each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 16 years old, indecent assault of a person less than 16 years old, and corruption of minors. In addition, he pleaded guilty to separate charges of unlawful contact with a minor, sexual assault, and indecent exposure in what appears to be a litany of crimes committed against the young and vulnerable.
President Judge Raymond F. McHugh delivered the sentence, which includes 10 to 20 years for the first case and a subsequent 1 ½ to three years for the second. These sentences are set to run consecutively, adding up to the 11 ½ to 23-year range. Following his prison term, McHugh also decreed Gorman would be subjected to three years of probation.
To emphasize the seriousness of his crimes, the Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board has classified Gorman as a sexually violent predator. This label includes public notification requirements and highlights the threat he poses to the community, especially its younger members.
