Long Beach Police Department officers had a busy morning as they responded to two violent incidents last night. According to the official LBPD Blotter release, at around 5:11 a.m. on September 2, a call came in about a burglary that turned out to be a stabbing at the 0 block of 4th Place. Officers found a male victim suffering from non-life-threatening stab wounds. The Long Beach Fire Department quickly transported him to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives on the scene pieced together that an altercation between the suspect and victim escalated, resulting in the stabbing. The suspect attempted to flee but was soon apprehended by law enforcement. However, the suspect was not taken into custody without a struggle. A use of force was reported as officers utilized 40mm less-lethal rounds to subdue him. Later identified as 46-year-old Anthony Bartolo Olivas, who is experiencing homelessness, he was cleared medically and booked for burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, with bail set a $50,000.

Earlier that same morning, LBPD officers were called to another scene. This time at the 1500 block of Pine Avenue around 4:44 a.m., officers arrived in response to reports of a person brandishing a gun. Upon arrival and during the subsequent investigation, officers arrested the armed individual and secured the firearm. The circumstances surrounding this arrest remain under probe as part of their ongoing investigation.
