The Motor City has revved up a new synergy, putting StockX and the Detroit Pistons in a multiyear partnership starting the 2024-25 season. StockX, a Detroit-based e-commerce platform known for the sneaker and apparel trade, will now see their logo emblazoned on the front left strap of the Pistons’ jerseys. The Pistons tipped this deal off with a "Detroit Kickback" party, celebrating the local essence at the heart of this new deal, as the Detroit Free Press reported.
While looking to recapture some team spirit after a 14-68 season slog, the Pistons, alongside StockX, hosted the celebratory event at Campus Martius Park on Wednesday. The event, led by Detroit native and basketball veteran Jalen Rose, also celebrated Pistons star guard Cade Cunningham's birthday. In an interview obtained by The Detroit News, Cunningham voiced his excitement about the partnership, noting the value of connecting the community.
Big Sean, Grammy-nominated local icon and the Pistons’ creative director of innovation was part of the team showcasing the new jersey with the StockX patch. His role sees him engage with various off-court initiatives, continuing a relationship that began back in December 2020, as highlighted by ClickOnDetroit. Together with StockX leadership, the Pistons' front office, and notable faces in Detroit sports, the event encapsulated a significant blend of community and commerce.
But the partnership aims beyond branding and jersey patches. Pistons Vice Chairman Arn Tellem acknowledged the broader vision to integrate efforts with the online retailer to nurture community projects and engage young fans. Pivoting beyond pure commerce, as the partnership unfurls, the Pistons expect to engage in projects that fuel both fan engagement and cultural participation across Detroit, according to Tellem's statement obtained by the Detroit Free Press.
As StockX garners a prominent place within the Pistons’ universe — extending its branding to team courts and engaging with Pensole College of Business and Design students.
