The tragic murder of a young Nepalese student in Houston, Muna Pandey, has led to the arrest of a 51-year-old suspect, thanks in part to a surveillance camera installed by the victim's friend. Dipendra Kunwar, who considered Pandey as a sibling he never had, set up a camera outside her apartment after she expressed fears of being stalked. He described their close bond, having grown up together in Nepal before relocating to Houston, in an interview with FOX San Antonio. Kunwar's installation of the surveillance system seemingly deterred the unknown stalker from returning.

On a fateful day, Pandey was found shot dead in her apartment located at the Reserve at 63 Sixty Three Apartments off West Airport Boulevard. According to News 4 San Antonio, an anonymous caller informed the apartment management about a body in the premise. Kunwar recounts the incident, "When she tried to open the door, the man came with a gun and told her to open the door and let him in. She had no idea that he was waiting for her to come over there."

The police later observed on the camera footage a man leaving Pandey's apartment with her belongings. The suspect, identified as Bobby Shah, was charged with capital murder, with the surveillance footage playing a key role in his capture. Without the camera, Kunwar believes that Shah might not have been apprehended. Shah is scheduled for his next court appearance on Tuesday, Sept 10 at 9 a.m.

Pandey, aged 21, had dreams of a future in nursing and a desire to care for her mother. That future has been untimely taken from her, leaving friends and family mourning a life cut devastatingly short. Kunwar shared these details of Pandey's aspirations in his discourse with FOX San Antonio, stating that the young student's ambition was to become a nurse and take care of her mother.
