Two carjacking suspects were arrested after a high-octane chase through Los Angeles County, as reported by KTLA. The dramatic pursuit began when a vehicle was reportedly stolen at gunpoint from a gas station in Lynwood. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department informed that the suspects may have been armed during the carjacking.

The chase escalated onto the freeways, with the driver hitting speeds over 100 miles per hour as they weaved through traffic. At one point, the passenger was seen making gestures at pursuing officers, possibly capturing the event on his phone, KTLA reported. The spectacle grew only more surreal as one of the suspects was later spotted hanging out of the vehicle during the pursuit, according to witnesses. Traffic was disrupted significantly as the chase unfolded on the 710 Freeway.

Authorities successfully deployed a spike strip that shredded the vehicle's tire, leading to the end of the chase near the Alondra Boulevard exit in Long Beach, ABC7 noted. Once the vehicle came to a stop due to the tire damage, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. A foot chase ensued down an embankment by the freeway before both suspects were apprehended.

Interestingly, even as the suspects led deputies on a chase reaching up to 90 miles per hour, the driver continued to use the vehicle's blinkers while the headlights were off, an odd adherence to road rules amidst the chaos, recalled CBS News Los Angeles. Following the suspects' capture, the freeway where the chase terminated was soon cleared and normal traffic resumed.
