Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department were called to a structure fire at a one-story commercial row, which included a laundromat, on West Adams Boulevard yesterday. According to the LAFD alert, the incident, designated as INC#0949, began at approximately 1:40 p.m., with flames visibly tearing through the roof upon their arrival.

In a coordinated response, the LAFD crews engaged in what is known as an “offensive mode” to combat the blaze. The fire had consumed parts of the laundromat's attic and rapidly spread. Firefighters were able to contain and knock down the flames in a strikingly short span. The official knockdown announcement came just 17 minutes after the response began. While actively battling the fire, one firefighter suffered non-life-threatening burns and, continuing to prioritize their safety, was transported to a local hospital.

The incident took place in the Adams-Normandie area, within the jurisdiction of Council District 8. The LAFD has not yet reported on the cause of the fire and it remains under investigation. Nicholas Prange, a spokesperson for the department, confirmed that 42 firefighters were present at the scene, indicating the sizable nature of the effort required to extinguish the fire.

As the LAFD continues its investigation into the origins and circumstances of the fire, local businesses and residents are reminded of the unpredictability and danger that fires pose, particularly in densely built urban environments.
