Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to shape the trajectory of education in the South with a recent appointment. Abbott has reappointed Representative Brad Buckley, D.V.M., to the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB), a term that will extend until June 30, 2028.
The Office of the Texas Governor announced this decision as part of the state's on-going efforts to improve public education from early childhood through doctoral studies. The SREB serves as critical junction for Southern states, a legacy dating back to its formation by southern governors and legislators in 1948, who sought to amplify the connection between education and the region's economic future.
Representative Buckley is no stranger to the educational landscape, carrying experiences from various leadership roles in the Texas House of Representatives where he is in his third term. He has been an advocate within the House Public Education Committee, which he chairs, and sits on the House Land and Resource Management Committee. Prior to those roles, Buckley spent time as a school board member for the Killeen Independent School District, chairing the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce, and serving on the board for the Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children. His educational credentials include a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University, a beckoning call to the depth of his commitment to the state's educational and professional standards, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
