Two juveniles have been taken into custody due to a threatening message directed at Fairfield Union Local Schools. The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the FBI, investigated the alleged online threat, ultimately identifying and arresting the suspects, who were both students within the school district. The individuals are currently being held at the Fairfield County Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center, as reported by ABC6.
The arrests followed a notification from the FBI alerting local authorities of the potential risk posed to the schools. According to Sheriff Alex Lape, "The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office continues to work closely with our local school districts to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for our students and residents," a commitment underscored in the wake of recent threats across the state. The school district, shaken by the turn of events, closed schools on Tuesday as a precaution while the investigation was in progress, as detailed by WBNS.
In response to the incident, Fairfield Union Local School District Superintendent Chad Belville said, "give a sincere thank you to everyone at the Sheriff's Department working hard to keep our schools and community safe." Consequently, all athletic games and practices scheduled for today were canceled. According to a statement obtained by the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette, the district anticipates that regular school activities will continue on Wednesday.
