Tragedy struck Fairfield County with the loss of two Lancaster men in separate vehicular incidents just hours apart. The Ohio State Highway Patrol has reported two fatal crashes, launching investigations into the circumstances behind each devastating event.
The first incident, involving 41-year-old Avon Stokes, occurred Thursday afternoon, when his 2008 Chevrolet Impala, heading west on state Route 188 in Hocking Township, met a fateful end. According to ABC6, Stokes was attempting to navigate a curve but overcorrected. This led to his vehicle crossing the center line and striking an embankment before overturning. Stokes, failing to survive the incident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a second, unrelated incident, reported by WBNS, 37-year-old Brian Swank met a similar tragic fate early this morning. Operating his 2020 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Lithopolis Road in Greenfield Township, Swank failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the road. His motorcycle struck a ditch and an embankment before overturning, with Swank pronounced dead at the scene by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol's communications underscore the ongoing efforts to unravel the events that led to these fatalities. "Both crashes remain under investigation," highlighted a statement obtained by NBC4i. As they delve into the sequence of actions that claimed the lives of Stokes and Swank, the Patrol's analysis is awaited by a community mourning the abrupt departure of its two members.
