Art enthusiasts and aspiring creatives in Raleigh, mark your calendars. The Sertoma Arts Center is rolling out a fresh roster of classes this fall, ready to welcome everyone from pottery prodigies to master metalworkers. First up is the intriguing "Gothic Spires and Gargoyles" pottery class aimed at kids aged 7 to 11. The three-week course, which starts on October 3, is set to dive into the medieval roots of gargoyles and spires, allowing young participants to craft their own mythical creatures out of clay.
The "Drawing Fundamentals for Teens" session, led by Anne Terry, intends to rigorously expose 13 to 16 year-olds to various drawing techniques, from contour to gesture drawing. City residents can snag a spot for $91, whereas non-residents will have to shell out $106 for the six-session course, starting October 28.
For those inclined towards wearable art, Lauren Markley has got you covered with "Beginning Metals." Targeted at participants 16 and older, the class is perfect for anyone looking to transform raw metal into exquisite jewelry, as mentioned on the City of Raleigh website. This class, priced at $146 for residents and $161 for non-residents, promises to teach the basics of sawing, filing, and soldering over six evenings starting October 22.
Last but not least, "The Artist’s Way for Women Part I" is an opportunity to spark that inner creative flame. Designed for women aged 22 and up, instructor Marlene Pelligrino is ready to lead this journey into self-discovery and artistic empowerment. The five-session course starts on September 25, with a fee of $181 for residents and $196 for non-residents. To secure a seat in any of these classes, future Michelangelos and O'Keeffes can directly register online through Sertoma Arts Center's page.
