A 67-year-old woman is fighting for her life following a stabbing incident that occurred yesterday afternoon in the bustling area of Center City, Philadelphia. The assault took place near the intersection of 10th and Market streets at approximately 3:30 p.m., as reported by CBS News Philadelphia. She was discovered with wounds to the chest and upper left back, and subsequently rushed to Jefferson University Hospital where she remains in critical condition. The motives behind this violent act are yet to be determined, with no suspects currently in custody.
As authorities delve into the investigation, no crime scene has been isolated in connection to the attack. NBC Philadelphia has noted that the Philadelphia Police Department received a call regarding a person armed with a weapon, which led to the discovery of the victim. So far, the sequence of events leading up to the stabbing, as well as the identities of those involved, prove elusive. The precipitating argument and the eventual violent encounter have yet to uncover their full narratives.
However, an insight comes from surveillance footage, with Philadelphia's Chief Inspector Scott Small detailing that the suspect, after engaging in an altercation with the woman, inflicted multiple stab wounds before fleeing eastbound on Market Street on a red bicycle. This bicycle, equipped with a large bag, suggests potential ties to a delivery service—ascriptions that may aid investigators as they scour for further footage and witness accounts. "Preliminary information is the 67-year-old female and the perpetrator did know each other. We have a name now, so we believe we know who we are looking for," Small disclosed according to 6ABC. Small added, "According to witnesses and at least one camera, you can see the perpetrator get on a red bicycle and drive off eastbound on Market from 10th."
In the midst of a search for answers, authorities are urging anyone with information to step forward and assist in apprehending the individual responsible for the crime. The suspect was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, and the unique attributes of the bicycle may prove pivotal in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Philadelphia police at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
