The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reported an expanded recall by the Dynarex Corporation for baby powder potentially tainted with asbestos. The recall now impacts additional products that may affect consumers in 35 states and those who purchased the powder online through Amazon. According to The Houston Chronicle, the recall includes an extra 373 case items for the 14 oz version, and 647 cases for the 4 oz baby powder.

Initially starting in September, the recall has widened after a routine agency sampling found the baby powder might contain asbestos, a well-known carcinogen. Texas is among the states listed where the potentially contaminated products were sold. No illnesses or adverse events have been reported on Monday. Nevertheless, the FDA urges consumers to discontinue use of the recalled baby powder immediately, the release said.

As reported by KBTX, the expanded recall pertains to shipments of the product earlier this year, affecting numerous states from Alabama to Wisconsin. The September recall affected 62 cases involving 24- and 14-ounce containers of baby powder. After detecting asbestos in the finished products, Dynarex discontinued the distribution. An investigation is ongoing to identify the cause of the talc contamination.

Dynarex Corporation can be contacted for refunds or questions at 888-396-2739 or 845-365-8200, during business hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., or via email at [email protected]. Consumers, and health care professionals have also been advised to report any adverse events possibly related to the product to the FDA's MedWatch program. Details of the recall, and specific guidance for returns are available, with further information accessible online.
