A 41-year-old man has been arrested following a sequence of alarming incidents in Cleveland that culminated in a high-speed police chase and a crash. On Thursday, after receiving a call concerning a man with a rifle breaking windows at a business on Fulton Road, Cleveland police arrived at the scene where they discovered shattered glass and an injured 49-year-old man who had tried to intervene. The suspect is said to have pointed the rifle at him, robbed him, then fled. According to WKYC, the victim encountered minor injuries but was not shot.
During their preliminary investigation, officers heard gunshots in the vicinity, and soon after, a second victim, a 31-year-old man, reported that the suspect had also fired shots at him. The pursuit began after police located the suspect's vehicle leaving the area.
FOX8 reported that the chase spanned from Fulton Road onto major highways I-71 and I-490 East, eventually resulting in the suspect losing control and crashing into a guardrail. The incident caused significant traffic disruptions. Following the suspect's apprehension, Cleveland police recovered stolen property. FOX8 confirmed that the stolen items were returned to the original victim.
The suspect, whose name has yet to be released pending official charges, was arrested for a myriad of offenses, including aggravated robbery and felonious assault. Further allegations include having weapons while under disability, felony fleeing and eluding, and drug trafficking, among others. "I am grateful to the men and women of the Second District and the entire Division for their continued hard work. The swift arrest of this dangerous individual underscores the commitment our officers have to the safety of our community," Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd expressed her appreciation in a statement obtained by Cleveland19.
