Over the past weekend, Austin's homeless and at-risk populations showcased their talents at the 31st annual Art from the Streets (AFTS) art show. The event represented a culmination of year-long efforts by individuals who have found solace and expression in painting, drawing, and creating. The show put more than 3,000 pieces of artwork on display, created by over 100 participants. Kelley Worden, Executive Director of AFTS, highlighted the significance of the event, remarking, "So many artists put their heart and soul in what they do and all their pieces that are here," as reported by KVUE.

The AFTS initiative offers a free studio for these artists to visit and spontaneously create art four days a week. "Many of them come in and they find that positive community, and that's what they're needing to help them move forward," Worden told KVUE. Artists like Larry Williams, an Austin native who has battled with homelessness, see painting as a way to regain a sense of balance. "I had to paint my way back to where I needed to be," Williams said.

Austin's community was invited to receive more than an eyeful of art – they were provided with an opportunity to directly support the artists at the Blue Genie Art Bazaar. AFTS held its 32nd annual 'Show and Sale' on Oct. 12 and 13, transforming the venue into a space of inspiration and economic potential. Kelley Worden explained, "Our Annual Show and Sale is more than just an art exhibition — it’s a powerful demonstration of how artistic expression can transform lives," in an interview given to KXAN.
