Get ready to bask in the glow of holiday cheer, Pittsburgh. A new immersive light display titled 'Aurora' will adorn Mellon Square in Downtown Pittsburgh this winter season. The innovative exhibit is the brainchild of local artist Joshua Challen Ice, who has cleverly incorporated Wind and human touch into the lighting effects.
Starting November 23, the day of Light Up Night, residents and visitors can feast their senses on this dazzling installation. Announced by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, the display will reach a towering height of 25 feet—a spectacle that promises to be a cornerstone of the city’s festive celebrations. To liven up the winter months, the exhibit and an array of activities, such as heated igloos and a hot cocoa booth, will remain open through mid-January, as per officials. WPXI reported.
Mellon Square is set to transform into a veritable winter wonderland, with live music and holiday choirs circling the centerpiece light display. Catherine Qureshi, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, emphasized the community-focused nature of the event. "This installation is about more than just holiday lights—it's about capturing the magic of the season and creating moments of joy for everyone who visits," she said, per CBS News Pittsburgh. "By bringing the community together, we're celebrating Mellon Square as a downtown oasis that shines even brighter during winter."
