
Early Tuesday morning, an incident in northwest Austin resulted in two injuries and one fatality, prompting a homicide investigation by the Austin Police Department. According to KXAN, the occurrence took place around 2:45 a.m. in the 12000 block of Research Boulevard, a locale positioned just south of McNeil Drive and US-183.
Austin Police Officer Leah Ratliff, in a media briefing, said that they found two victims with "obvious" signs of trauma. One victim was taken to a local hospital, the other was pronounced deceased at the scene at 3:01 a.m. A third person, also hurt, managed to take themselves to the hospital. This incident marks the city's 49th homicide of the year.
Simultaneously, CBS Austin reported that the events unfolded in a shopping center parking lot at North Brooke Plaza and that there were "quite a few callers" reporting a shooting to the police. Officers arrived within two minutes to discover the critically wounded individuals. Though life-saving measures were attempted, one individual succumbed to their injuries on the scene.
The Austin Police Department reassured the public, stating that they believed this was an isolated incident and there was no ongoing threat.
