The culinary landscape in Austin is set to spice up with the opening of a new Southwestern restaurant, Teddy's, this November. Slated to be located at 1601 West 38th Street, Suite 1 in the Rosedale neighborhood, Teddy's is the latest endeavor by the minds behind Bill's Oyster, a downtown seafood spot that's made waves since its May 2023 debut. With its eyes set on delivering a Southwest-themed menu peppered with Texas flavors, Teddy's promises to serve up dishes like Texas red chili enriched by bone marrow and filet mignon paired with chile relleno, as per Austin Eater.
Daniel Berg and Dylan Salisbury, the co-owners of Teddy's, have strong culinary backgrounds, with Berg having started his restaurant journey in New York and continuing it in Houston before arriving in Austin. Having been exposed to the intriguing depths of Southwestern cuisine during his time in Houston, specifically through a collaboration involving James Beard award-winning Chef Robert Del Grande, Berg is introducing an Austin spot that draws on the essence of Texas and its cornucopia of diverse culinary traditions, according to CultureMap Austin. Salisbury's vast experience in launching restaurants around Texas and New Orleans complements the team, bringing with him a gusto for the distinctive flavors that Southwestern cuisine offers—a sector he notes is "somewhat underrepresented" in Austin.
Teddy's will also feature a bar showcasing cocktails, including a Valentina Michelada, martinis like the Lone Starr, a selection of wines, and frozen cocktails. The establishment hopes that its beverage program will complement the bold flavors of its food offerings. Holding the culinary reigns is executive chef Rene Garza, who has made his mark across several noteworthy Austin eateries and is set to infuse Teddy's menu with a modern Southwestern twist while reflecting the rich Mexican influence inherent to Texas cuisine.
