The former sustainable apartment building is being converted into a compact stay-with-a-story, promising king beds, wall-length windows, and in-room workstations aimed at short stays and creative getaways. Developers say Bohème will house 20 guest rooms, including six suites, with king beds, wall-length windows, and in-room mini bars. As reported by MySA, the property will feature Sacred Souls, an onsite cocktail lounge, while the rooftop spot Higher Spirits will serve a curated drink program. Trade coverage also notes that Higher Spirits will include a roughly 1,000-square-foot lawn for live music, film nights, and community programming, and that Austin-based Nova Hospitality will run the hotel's food-and-beverage program.
Built From An Apartment, Designed To Tell A Story
The rust-colored building on Comal Street previously operated as a sustainable apartment block and has been reimagined with Baldridge Architects on board. CultureMap Austin notes that each suite is individually themed, from Janis Joplin-inspired rooms to a tech-forward "Start-Up" suite, all meant to narrate different facets of Austin culture. Community reporting also flags a ground-floor grocer and a lobby bar among the planned neighborhood-facing amenities.

Bohème arrives as East Austin continues to attract smaller, design-focused hotels that double as neighborhood gathering spots rather than just places to crash after last call. The Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau lists Bohème among the city's new and notable developments for the third quarter of 2026, a timing planners say lines up with demand as the city readies for convention-center redevelopment and more local programming.
