A tragic series of events unfolded last Saturday when a man from Bainbridge Island was hospitalized after being shot in the stomach by his girlfriend's estranged husband. The incident, which took place around 5:30 p.m. near the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, involved a complex and tumultuous encounter between the three individuals, further complicated by the presence of a child.
According to KIRO 7, the estranged husband is accused to have rammed his car into the vehicle containing his wife, her boyfriend, and their 8-year-old child, who was being dropped off after a visit. The violent encounter did not end there, as the estranged husband allegedly proceeded to open fire, striking the boyfriend in the abdomen.
As reported by The News Tribune, the woman had initially dropped her 21-year-old boyfriend at the fairgrounds before the meeting with the father of her child. Once reunited, the enraged husband spotted the couple and begun shooting at them.
The situation swiftly escalated into a high-speed chase, as detailed by KING 5. The boyfriend tried to quickly drive away but the husband gave chase, continuing to shoot. Eventually, the husband overtook and collided head-on with the other vehicle. What followed was an altercation on the street that spiraled into both men fighting in a ditch before law enforcement arrived.
Drama on the roadside culminated with a witness to the fight securing the handgun, while the two men tussled in the ditch. A responding Kitsap County deputy found "the boyfriend holding the husband down in a headlock," as per a KING 5 report. The boyfriend was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center for the gunshot wound treatment, while the husband was arrested and booked on suspicion of first-degree assault and drive-by shooting, and is being held without bail. Remarkably, the woman and the child involved in this violent outbreak were unhurt.
